This non-potable water can be used to water lawns and gardens, wash cars, be used in toilets and also to wash clothing when connected to your washing machine. If you live in an area where you don’t have access to mains or town water, then you will be required to install a much larger rainwater collection tank, usually an underground concrete tank, with an approved filtration system. Usually rainwater tanks that hold under 10,000 litres of water won’t require Council approval to install. But, due to their size and the potential hazard of rainwater storage, your local Council may also have regulations regarding the installation of rainwater tanks for your home or business.
